0.4.2 release candidate 1

Just throwing this mingw development build here. Beware and report the bugs. I think this is lacking sound because of a missing DLL file the name of which I don’t remember. If you have OpenAL globally installed, sound will work (and in some other cases too).

Refer to github for changes.

Also an experimental mobs mod which doesn’t do much now, which I have been fiddling around a few hours sometimes for… I guess during multiple months. This is NOT included in the 0.4.2-rc1 download.

An experimental mob cave / dungeon / vault / whatever in Minetest. See the chest? 8)

    Where is the changelog??

  2. Topywo Says:

    Thanks!

Also a really nice suprise that mod :-)

Are the DM’s supposed to shoot fireballs in a later version?

I have an idea for a future update, if this is possible. What I am thinking of is some more LUA functions to allow a mod to set the Max. HP of an entity, change their HP, and instead of hearts being used as a measurement of HP, what about the ”hearts” just being one image that serves as a bar showing the percent of HP that one has?
Just an idea, and it may help with RPG mods/forks in the future.

    Great!

  6. sdzen Says:

    or is it a bonus

  7. Josh Says:

Yay mobs are back i know dm’s are back but is the oerkii back? also can you find stuff in chests you find in dungeons? Great work celeron!

  8. Eazi98 Says:

You should make the Creative mode item just be in one so you won’t have to keep restaking the blocks its too annoying
Still very hard to find a jungle tree “biome” in this version , easier to find in 0.3.1

  9. mauvebic Says:

Im abit indifferent to mobs (any modder can take animals mod and tweak it) but one thing i am impressed with is the noticeable improvement in performance going from 0.4.1 to 0.4.2 :-) from 15-19% CPU (old) to 6-10% CPU (new) – That, is awesome, thanks :-)

Would it be possible to add more menu options in subsequent releases? you know better than me what the more intensive features are, i’d like to be able to disable some of them without adding yet-another-fork to the fray :p

Also, (not pressing) are there any plans to lua-ize the mapgen? or add a flag to disable it the built-in one?

    Nice work :-)

It seems laggier to me, but it may just be my computer. Although 0.4.1 runs way more smooth. Keep up the updates! I also found something a bit odd, while I was getting random items. Papyrus grew two blocks, then it was a tree the rest of the way up..

    Good job :3

I noticed a few references to rollback and im also having this issue where i’ll be placing nodes and the last dozen nodes will keep disappearing and reappearing. I dont know if the two are related, but hopefully rollback will have an off switch? save resources on private servers :-)

  12. Menche Says:

Could the vaults be split out of the “mobs” mod?

  13. Matt Says:

Still having huge lag issues with .4.~ versions, the lag is bad enough that I can’t jump up one block and I see no animation when digging, I wait 2-3 seconds and the block disappears in front of me.

  14. Eazi98 Says:

Old chest crashes the game when you take something out so try to fix it or it will take forever if you want to use the items in the chest
Please fix that by the next update
btw i dun know if if will crash the game if the chest is new

  15. Spots Says:

so installed the new one and i make a world but when i exit out and restart it sits at loading media in the last 2 lines in the debug are

We still need someone to work on the OSX version. The latest online is from January, I can’t even craft doors with this one…

  17. AduVerdek Says:

Very hard to find mobs and even more food, I have not seen a single dungeon, or the jungle. The game begins to get interesting but still I put the verse on 3.1 because I think that this is the most stable I have ever been issued despite the fact that buckets are missing and the door but it’s not important.

  18. Eazi98 Says:

Uh there seems to be a bug with the water , when the water overflows and there are some water next to each other but without it being surrounded the water would just combine to become one big pool of water and it is very annoying

  19. gnudist Says:

Nyancat should be removed due to non-free status. We don’t want linux distros to be afraid to include minetest because of it

The nyancat image was in nate desktop but this made it unsuitable for inclusion in fodora due to copyright concerns so /g/ made a free repacement; http;//achive.org/details/MOOGNU

  20. gnudist Says:

    Whoops, should be aRchive.org

  21. Robert Says:

The moment that Minetest includes finitewater style water physics by default, and submersibles and scuba gear is the moment I leave Minecraft behind for Minetest. I want to build underwater bases and it looks like the additions I need to truly live well down there will never be added to Minecraft.
