Gravatar sucks

Sunday, September 14th, 2014

Gravatar sucks.

I want to use a different avatar on different sites. I can’t. What the fuck is this shit? Who thought this was a good idea?

Can you actually select a different avatar if you go to gravatar.com and login there with one of those stupidly obscure website accounts that have nothing to do with gravatar whatsoever and of which none I have? I will never know. But I am guessing I can’t.

I love Finnish summer!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

It’s 22:48 here in Oulu. At the moment the view from my window looks like this:

No, the sun isn’t really going to go down anytime soon. Technically there is a sunset, but you can’t really tell at what moment it happens. In practice the sun will increasingly start going down in a week or two. Finally in six months it will barely show up above the horizon instead of barely going behind it. Hopefully there is snow by then, as it makes things brighter.

Here, have a photo of clouds too:

And something a month earlier:

Also, I actually love winter too. And the other things in this category of things. But it’s summer at the moment.

Minimalistic Advice

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

Look for things around you that are widely claimed to be fixing something, but in fact are causing the exact same thing. They may or may not be the original cause of it.

Please, right from this moment and through the rest of your life. Always when you find one, tell it to at least one other person.

There is an idiotic amount of things like this everywhere and I am dead serious. Look for big and small things. It may be the thing you trust the most.

Trinity-amarok is awesome!

Monday, April 14th, 2014

I only now found out about the TDE project and that it is maintaining the 1.4 series of Amarok, and packaging it for everything.

It’s fucking glorious. I love you. The Yauap backend plays even the audio from Matroska video files. It doesn’t start randomly consuming 100% CPU like Clementine does. Even the “Suggested Songs” dynamic playlist works which is the absolute peak of modern music player development. Nothing has that today. Except this.

KDE4 forgot almost everything that was good about KDE3.5. These people didn’t.
