Cool and quiet? Pentium 4? IMPOSSIBRU!

Oh don’t mind the occasional c55.me server downtime today, I’m just figuring out how to put the fans in this thing to keep it cool but quiet enough and the HDD cables and whatnot tend to get pulled out (goddamn SATA power connectors…) :-D

Tweaking c55.me

Wait a minute, you left the power cable pluged? I hope it was not powered.

Of course I left it plugged and running! In fact, I:
    1) removed a broken HDD and a broken fan,
    2) installed an another fan and removed some dust with a vacuum cleaner from there… and in fact also
    3) tried to supply a fixed 5 volts to the CPU cooler to see if it’d run just fast enough, but it was too slow.

All while this website and the minetest server was running. 8) And yes, I know what I am doing. Thanks for asking!

That machine has been up and running for 160 days straight now:
    17:25:23 up 160 days, 17:11, 10 users, load average: 2.34, 1.42, 1.00

Really, my PC is is the same spec, in pure silence.

I only hear the fan at boot.

And Jesus that thing must be HOT!

Powered on PC handling? Thats not unusual :D

Only issue i’ve had is fans like to eat my fingers and knuckles….Had a few horrible bloody instances, but nothing life threatening.. I need PC grates for BOTH side of the fans :D

  6. celeron55 Says:

MrGaSp: I generally can’t get blood out of myself with regular fans, but I once made a radio controlled hovercraft in which I put an old heavy 90mm PC fan, but replaced the built-in motor with a 540 size RC car motor…. Oh god. I don’t want to think about it. :—D

(Edit: It seems wordpress generates some errors when posting comments… well, it seems to work otherwise though, so nothing to worry about!)
